My baby

My baby is 7 years old today!! He is such an amazing little guy who has completely changed my life. When he was born I was just a stupid teenager with no real life experience. I was shocked by how happy this little baby made me. I had never really planned to have babies but was apparently built to give birth. With Xavier I was 11 days overdue when they finally decided to induce me. I went to the hospital in the afternoon and was given a gel induction and sent home. We hung out at home until about 11pm when I thought I maybe having some kind of cramping or something. At the hospital I was treated like a stupid teenager with no idea what my body was doing and sent home with a sleeping pill and instructions to go to sleep and not bother them again until the morning. I wasn't really surprised because I wasn't in much pain so home we went to try to get some sleep. The weird annoying pain continued into the night. I was falling asleep from the sleeping pill for 45 seconds between the non-contractions. Finally at about 2:15am while Carl and my mom were sleeping I decided I felt a little constipated so I better sit on the toilet. My mom instinctualy came out and knocked on the door. I told her I was bleeding a little so she called the hospital. They, with no uncertainty, told my mom I was not in labour and to get a grip and not bother them again until the morning. I remember sitting on the toilet thinking how much better I was feeling since I sat down when splash, my water broke and hit the wall across from the toilet. I almost laughed until I realized the baby's head was out. I called my mom, who was instinctualy still outside the door, and got off the toilet onto the floor. My mom called 911 and Carl then came to deliver the rest of her first grandchild. He came out very quickly and easily but he was all blue and the cord was around his neck. My mom unwrapped the cord and then had to go find the ambulance that was lost. Carl was impatiently telling the 911 operator he needed to hang up and help but she insisted he stay on the phone. While my mom flagged down the ambulance I stuck my finger down Xavier's throat and he coughed and sputtered and finally breathed. I got some Q-tips and cleaned out his nose and covered him up with towels. I didn't pick him up off the floor because I wasn't sure if I was supposed to or not. The ambulance arrived 15 minutes after he was born and took us to the hospital. We were looked over and told we were A-OK!! I remember feeling like I was going to burst with love. He was so perfect and cute and MINE! We had so many visitors in the hospital, the amount of love we felt was amazing :) Xavier is really the epitome of pride and joy. As much as he drives me completely nuts a lot of the time I really can't stand to be away from him. I'm not looking forward to back to school when I miss out on 6 hours a day of his precious little life. Happy Birthday Xavier thanks for making my life meaningful!

I can't believe you gave birth in the bathroom at home! That is an amazing story. I keep picturing it in my mind and it's such a beautiful thing I bet it was so cool! I can't imagine having a baby outside the hospitel. I also can't believe they let you go almost 2 weeks overdue!!! They would NEVER do that here in Utah. ALl the docs here are all induction hoppers! What a cool experience for you! Happy birthday to your son!
