Back to real life...

The relaxation period is officially over. We were back at it today with school, ballet and skating.
Xavier headed off to school very excited to tell his teacher about reading green eggs and Ham all by himself. She was very proud of him and I think realized he is ready to be challenged a little more in the reading department.
Klausine had a good day at school but it was cut short because ballet starts at 2pm and school doesn't end until 215pm.
Today was viewing day at ballet meaning the blinds were open and we could watch the class. They do this only once a month because the kids end up standing waving at their parents and not paying attention to the teacher. I was able to take a few pictures but they didn't turn out very well through the glass...
After ballet we headed straight to public skating. The kids all got bundled up in their new snowsuits and off they went. Since Lunden has been walking around on the ice for the for the last month or two I decided to get him some skates and see how he does. It took me a while to convince the skate rental guy I knew what I was doing but eventually he gave in. I let Lunden walk around on the floor around the ice for a while and he did great, after a few minutes he was running. I couldn't hold him back, before I knew it he was out on the ice. That was not quite as successful. He held on to the bar and was good for about three minutes but then he started slipping and never really recovered. He was so proud of himself though. I held his hands for a while and he liked that a bit better but I didn't want him to have a bad first experience so as soon as he wanted to get off we did.
I must say skating has been awesome these last couple months. I am amazed at how fast they all caught on. Klausine is counting down the days until she can play hockey and the way she's going it is not going to be too long. Xavier is also doing well, he has been working really hard. We are working on stamina now with him. He wants to take a break after a few minutes but in his hockey class they don't take breaks. he is improving everyday. Klausine was showing Xavier how to skate backwards yesterday and we had our first big fall...
It is kind of hard to see but her front tooth went right through her lip. She got off the ice for a few minutes but as soon as the tears were dry she was back out there skating as good as ever. I have a feeling i am going to be spending a lot of time at the arena over the next few years!

We came home, had dinner and then listened to Xavier read another book. He read Ten apples up on top, another Dr. Seuss book. He read the whole thing, which is about 45 pages. It is so exciting to see him read so well!

Way to go Xavier AND Klausine!! (and Lunden) Too bad about the fat lip - Xavier didn't get hurt in the mighty fall? Pretty cool that she can skate backwards!
